Blue knob Ski was developed in the early 1960’s and at one time it was the location of the Claysburg Air force station. One of the buildings, of the former station still remains today as a Ski Lodge. Blue Knob gets its name from its blue green rock formation. A part of the Allegheny Mountains, Blue Knob Ski is the largest skiable mountain in Pennsylvania; with peaks over three thousand feet. In June of 1964 a syndicate group purchased Blue Knob Ski Resort with plans to turn it into a year around Recreation Area; for that coming winter season. In July the following year Blue Knob Ski gets a new General Manager. Over the years plans to increase the size of the resort have followed through.

Many times the weather has had a part in changes over the ski area. Many large trees down from bad winter storms have caused extra work to be done to clear up the destruction. Snow fall in the area usually averages about twelve feet and tempatures can drop very low causing plenty ice and therefore destruction. The Government has also came in and done some destruction and cleanup of their own.

Blue Knob Ski Resort has survived a lot of hand changing and some destruction over the years , Yet it has thrived into a busy resort today with many different types of activities. People come from all around to join in the fun This Resort brings. From the first time Skier to the pro a person can find it all right here.

Blue Knob State Park is located in Bedford County, Pennsylvania. The park is named for the second highest mountain in the state, Blue Knob (3,146 feet). It is open year-round from sunrise to sunset and offers a variety of activities for guests. While improvements have been made throughout the years, Blue Knob State Park still retains its rustic, natural character.

There are a plethora of activities to enjoy during a summer visit to the park. There is a swimming pool that is open Memorial Day Weekend and closes labor Day weekend. There are picnic tables and covered pavilions scattered throughout the property. The park offers 18 miles of hiking trails, multi-use trails that are designated for mountain biking, streams filled with native and stocked trout, equestrian trails, and hunting (in season).

Snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, and downhill skiing are popular winter activities. The average annual snowfall is 12 feet. Snowmobile routes are open daily after hunting season. Eight miles of roads and trails are available for guests’ enjoyment. The cross-country skiing trails are adequate for those from beginner to expert. The downhill skiing area offers a 1,050 feet vertical drop.

With so many things to do at the park, many guests opt to stay overnight. Blue Knob State Park has modern camping sites (some with electric). Some of the sites even allow pets. Three cabins and one house are also available to rent within the park. The cabins and house offer the conveniences of home: heat, bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchens. Advance reservations are recommended for all overnight accommodations.

When visiting Blue Knob State Park, guests never run out of things to do. Considering all options, staying in the park overnight is a wise choice. Blue Knob State park is a wonderful place to visit no matter what time of the year.
